Introducing issue 03! Through exploring the bold and bright worlds graffiti and mural design, community and connections are the most common themes that we’ve seen throughout the third issue of TYPEONE. As we turn our attention to the artists, cultures, collectives, and projects which sit within both creative fields, it’s beautiful to see how type has been a long part of its makeup, culture, and history. We examine the brilliant scope for innovation as technologies such as AR and VR become significant influences to explore, and how brands and artists are utilising both disciplines to engage, create and maintain connections with their communities.
For the special fold-out front cover, we commissioned Marko whose trademark goes by the name of Appear Offline. Merging two different typographic worlds, Appear Offline is forging a new style of typographic practice with his experimental typography and letterform exploration – giving a new lease of life to the traditional styles and core principles of graffiti and graphic design.
The fold-out section was added to evoke the idea of a ‘wall’ from which Appear Offline then drew his typographic piece on – similar to how a graffiti writer could create their work on a wall too.
