"Peter Brötzmann was a German avant garde saxophonist and key figure in the free jazz movement. Daniel Spicer's book draws on extensive interviews with Brötzmann and key associates, tracing the German saxophonist’s crucial role as a pioneer of European free jazz, his restless travels and collaborations and his eventual superstardom, examining the life and work of a fiercely uncompromising artist with a reputation for gruff intensity and total commitment."
Join us on Saturday 29th March to hear Daniel Spicer; writer, broadcaster and regular contributor to The Wire, chat with David McLean; saxophonist and Tombed Visions label founder all about Brötzmann.
We will also have a live set from Manchester based improvisors Minimum Wage Immanence Unit. In a review of their debut CD, Spicer wrote that "they sound as if Terry Riley had gently commandeered the Bitches Brew sessions before nodding off in the corner" Compiled of Adam Fairhall on accordion/harmonium, David Birchall on guitar/banjo and Michael Perrett on bass clarinet.
