On Thursday 27th November we bring you a screening of The Double Life of Véronique, a spellbinding work by Polish master filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski from 1991.
Keeping in the Kieślowski tradition of exploring fate, chance and human interconnectedness, the film follows two young women, Weronika and Véronique, a singer and a music teacher, who live separate lives in Poland and France yet are, mysteriously, the exact double of each other. Through this enigmatic doppelgänger fable, Kieślowski creates a poetic meditation on identity and intuition, emotionally anchored by Irène Jacob’s moving dual performance. In its elusive, dreamlike sensibility, The Double Life of Véronique is a film that is perhaps better to be felt than understood, as it hauntingly depicts how our sense of self and the choices we make may be destablised by an uncanny sense that, somewhere, our double is leading a parallel life.
Doors from 6pm, film starts at 7pm. Tickets are £6 and as always, include a free drink on arrival.
This project is supported by Film Hub North with National Lottery funding on behalf of the BFI Film Audience Network.
