‘Imagine sitting at a table in a café waiting for the love of your life to arrive but instead of them, in walks their lover. They sit down and wait for the love of their life, and in walks...and so on.
In Holly Pester’s unique lyric, the café space is rendered as a fantastical structure through which to explore pressurised subjectivities in the shape of a worker, a lover, a friend, an artist, and a researcher.
On Thursday 9th July, we're hosting Holly Pester; poet, novelist and scholar in conversation with Andrew Biswell, professor of modern literature at MMU and Director of The International Anthony Burgess Foundation.
In 2024 we hosted Pester for her book 'The Lodgers'. We are very happy to welcome her back to Stockport, this time to chat all about her new poetry collection - Cafés, published by the wonderful Fitzcarraldo Editions.
Tickets for the event are £6 and include a free drink on arrival.
Doors from 6.30, event starts at 7.
Pre-order your copy of Cafés here.
