50th Anniversary Issue: Whole City Boy Catalog: Everything We Think of as a City Boy.What exactly is a "city boy"?
"This is a question I get asked often, but it's quite difficult to define in a single word. It's sometimes seen as a fashion style, but while being stylish is probably one element of being a city boy, it's not the only one. I think it's more attractive when someone's individuality shines through no matter what they wear, rather than someone who is always thinking about what to wear. The inaugural issue of POPEYE magazine contains this sentence: "If you live in a city, you'll start missing the air after just a week away from it."That's absolutely right. We love Ginza, where our editorial office is located, and we enjoy life in Tokyo in many ways. It's fun to travel sometimes, but we always miss the neon lights of the city. In other words, I think a city boy is someone who can literally enjoy city life. And I think it's fair to say that they are someone who, amidst an endless array of choices, can skillfully edit and incorporate what they need and what they desire, following their curiosity. This time, we've divided the content into three main categories: fashion, lifestyle, and town guide, gathering knowledge and information that we believe defines a "city boy" today. It also includes ideas like, "This is how a city boy would do things." We assigned an editor to each category, so I think the way each section is compiled reflects their individuality. In particular, the lifestyle section was handled by the "POPEYE WEB" team, which is different from our usual work. This issue is the result of the entire editorial team working together to create their own interpretations of the city boy. It's an extra-large volume, almost twice the size of a regular issue, so we hope you'll enjoy browsing and picking out the information that you find interesting and want to try. We hope you enjoy our 50th anniversary issue. Now, let's pass the baton to the person in charge of each category and have them talk about the highlights."
